A fellowship opportunity is currently available with the Evaluation, Policy, Innovation, Communication (EPIC) Team of the Workforce and Institute Development Branch (WIDB) within the Center for Global Health (CGH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) located in Atlanta, Georgia.
EPIC is responsible for monitoring and evaluation and training development for WIDB supported programs around the globe. The participant will also be mentored by the WIDB Associate Director for Science and will interact with epidemiologists in the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) unit.
The selected participant in this training will focus on assessing the output of FETPs. This will be done thought the systematic analysis of data collected from programs and written epidemiological accounts of investigations done in these programs. These materials will include a database of investigations from WIDB-supported FETPs and abstracts submitted to conferences. The participant will, under the direction of the EPIC team lead and the ADS carry-out assessments that are focused on scientific issues identified as among the higher priorities for improvement and training among the programs. The fellow will present his/her findings to other technical staff in written reports and oral presentations. During this Fellowship, the fellow will study side-by-side with CDC subject matter experts in a mentor-mentee relationship to accomplish assignments.
Anticipated Appointment Start Date: June 2021; start date is flexible
This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment can be up to one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
The qualified candidate should be currently pursuing a master's degree in one of the relevant fields.
Preferred skills:
- Training in epidemiological principles and statistics for public health
- Experience with spreadsheet and data processing
- Experience with creating statistical reports and interpretations
