The ARC/ORAU Middle School Summer Science Academy is a one-week, fully funded, hands-on learning experience for Appalachia's middle school students. Hosted by Oak Ridge Associated Universities in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, the program is a gateway to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in the Appalachian region. Many participants come from economically distressed counties and often gain increased exposure to applied science and STEM education through this experience. Middle school students conduct virtual, guided STEM research projects with master teachers. The program culminates in a final virtual group research presentation where participants showcase their work.
I certify that I am a U.S. citizen, am willing to follow all program and safety instructions, am able to participate in all virtual activities for the full virtual program period of June 19-July 2, 2021, currently attend a public school or homeschool (in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade) in a designated Appalachian county, and plan to enroll in a public school or homeschool in a designated Appalachian county for the 2021-2022 school year.
