Under the direction of the mentor, the selected participant will assist with managing service calls for various types of laboratory equipment. S/he will assist in managing the laboratory equipment Share-Point site used for reporting equipment status and service call scheduling. S/he will assist scientists with documenting technical issues and will participate in investigating, reviewing, coordinating and documenting service details for various types of laboratory systems and laboratory instruments. The effort will support participants analytical laboratory knowledge of laboratory instrumentation and increase education and knowledge of public health laboratory operations. Experience using Microsoft Office Software (i.e., Word, EXCEL, PowerPoint). Ability to develop and follow instructional procedures. Ability to gather and analyze data generated from reports.
Appointment Length
An ORISE appointment period can be a short-term (less than 2 weeks), summer (10-12 weeks), or yearlong appointment. Faculty appointments are generally for 10-12 weeks during the summer, but appointments during the academic year are also available. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.
Participant Benefits
Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by APHC. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

- Training and Travel Allowance
Nature of Appointment
The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
While participants will not enter into an employment relationship with DOD or any other agency, this opportunity will require a suitability investigation/background investigation. Any offer made is considered tentative pending favorable outcome of the investigation.
This opportunity is seeking undergraduate college students with an educational background that includes laboratory experience (educational and/or previous job experience). To qualify for ORISE, candidates must have completed their degree within the past five years.

- Degree: Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree received within the last 60 months or currently pursuing.
- Minimum Overall GPA: 2.50
