Ground Surgical Team Non-Technical Skills Faculty Research Fellowship (USAFSAM)
Click on Apply at the bottom of the opportunity to start your application.
The US Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine is offering a faculty fellowship in the area of Ground Surgical Team training. Phase 1 of the Air Force Ground Surgical Team training is conducted at USAFSAM. It is a two-week course designed to instruct military health care providers on how to manage traumatically injured patients in the austere environment. Due to the small number of personnel on the team (6), a key component of the training is how to collaborate as a small unit with limited resources. The purpose of this project is to introduce evidence based non-technical skills training into the GST Phase 1 course. The project will utilize qualitative research methodologies to identify non-technical behaviors necessary for optimal performance in the GST austere environment, implement a GST specific nontechnical skills development curriculum within the GST Phase 1 course, and evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum on both clinical and non-technical performance.
