The Environmental Management Participation Program for the U.S. Army Environmental Command (USAEC) provides opportunities to participate in USAEC on-going applied research and development projects, and environmental technology demonstration projects at Army installations worldwide. Project areas include Environmental Compliance and Planning, Cultural Resources, Natural Resources, Range Management, and Geographical Information Systems
A research opportunity is available with the Directorate of Public Works (DPW) in their Environmental Division located in Fort Drum, NY.The participant will assist with water quality sampling and measure stream flows on Long Term Monitoring and other assessment sites; electrofishing, collection of aquatic macroinvertebrates, and habitat assessments; and other limnological, fisheries, and stream aquatic natural resources surveys and assessments
Appointment Length
The appointment is for one year and may be renewed for up to four additional years based upon recommendation of the host institution and availability of funds.
Participant Benefits
Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by USAEC. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

Nature of Appointment
The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
Applicants must be pursuing or have received a bachelor's degree in biology within five (5) years of the desired start date or be able to complete all requirements for the degree within six months of the starting date.
