The Environmental Management Participation Program for the U.S. Army Environmental Command (USAEC) provides opportunities to participate in USAEC on-going applied research and development projects, and environmental technology demonstration projects at Army installations worldwide. Project areas include Environmental Compliance and Planning, Cultural Resources, Natural Resources, Range Management, and Geographical Information Systems.
One ORISE research opportunity is available with USAEC, located at Fort Huachuca, AZ. USAEC is seeking current students or recent Bachelor's recipients with a background in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, or Physical Science degree. This research appointment is a twelve month research opportunity and can be renewed for additional appointment terms. U.S. Citizenship is required. The research participant will be exposed to a variety of environmental related roles to enhance the selected participants knowledge. The candidate will collect, compile, analyze and enter environmental management data for one or more program areas such as Hazardous Waste, Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and others. Laboratory testing and data compilation/calculations for State and Federal reporting to determine compliance. Alternative/Cross training in multiple fields is highly likely.
Appointment Length
This appointment is for one year and may be renewed for up to four additional years based upon recommendation of the host installation and subject to availability of funds.
Participant Benefits
Participants will receive a monthly stipend to be determined by USAEC. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:

Nature of Appointment
The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
Current students or recent bachelor recipients with a background in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, or Physical Science degree.
U.S. Citizenship is required.
