Description

ORAU has a contingent job opportunity for a Scientist in chromatin biology to support of the overall functions of the Laboratory of Viral Diseases (LVD), National Institute of Health (NIH) DNA Tumor Virus Section, located in Bethesda, MD. The positions are contingent on award of an upcoming contract with NIAID Professional, Scientific and Technical Support Services. Salary for positions will be determined based on education and experience. Relocation support is not available for this position.

Technical Requirements:

  • Perform scientific procedures such as keratinocyte cell culture. In particular, requires use of mitotically arrested fibroblast feeders to support keratinocyte growth. This requires frequent (several times per week) use of an irradiator. Irradiator access requires security clearance - Public Trust Level 5.
  • Perform confocal microscopy, such as Leica SP8, including combined immunofluorescence, fluorescent in situ hybridization and live cell imaging techniques.
  • Perform basic laboratory maintenance including monitoring the levels of supplies, arranging for equipment repair/calibration, handling received orders; such as using the NIAID procurement system such as AMBIS and database management of laboratory reagents and specimens using Filemaker Pro.
  • Maintain detailed records of experiments and their results and prepare the information resulting from these experiments for presentations at laboratory-wide, NIH-wide, and national and international meetings and for publication.

 

Qualifications

 

Position Specific Requirements:

  • Ph. D. required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a laboratory setting
  • Experience and knowledge in chromatin biology, particularly as it pertains to the DNA damage response and viral DNA replication. Skill with chromatin immunoprecipitation is essential.
