Laboratory Technician
ORAU has a contingent job opportunity for a Laboratory Technician in support of the overall functions of the TB Imaging Program (TBIP), National Institute of Health (NIH) Division of Intramural Research (DIR), located in Bethesda, MD. The positions are contingent on award of an upcoming contract with NIAID Professional, Scientific and Technical Support Services. Salary for positions will be determined based on education and experience. Relocation support is not available for this position.

Technical Requirements:
- Perform a wide variety of procedures and techniques which may include, but are not limited to: cell culture, clinical/diagnostic microbiology, DNA analysis, DNA isolation, DNA purification, DNA sequencing, flow cytometry, gene cloning, manipulation of radioactive isotopes, natural product isolation, organic synthesis, peptide synthesis, protein analysis, RNA isolation, etc.
- Process primate and murine tissue and sample for downstream applications.
- Perform flow cytometric cell sorting and/or analysis of research scientist-supplied samples.
- Maintain detailed records of experiments and their results and prepare the information resulting from these experiments for presentations at laboratory-wide, NIH-wide, and national and international meetings and for publication.
- Perform quality control and decontamination of the various laboratory spaces.
- Generate laboratory records to support laboratory research, and independently performing necessary calculations.
- Write report(s) of findings, state methods and procedures, include any modifications employed, specimens and materials involved, and results of experiments.
- Interpret, evaluate, and discuss the results of each experiment with the supervisor as part of the planning process for subsequent studies, and present these findings in individual weekly meetings with task leader as well as lab group meetings.
- Work in a BSL-3 high containment environment.
- Work in an Animal BSL-3 high containment environment.
- Responsible for laboratory upkeep and routine maintenance of equipment. Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment including chemicals, biological materials, etc. required to handle biological materials, carcinogens, recombinant protein materials, acids, biological wastes, etc.
Position Specific Requirements:
- Operate PET/CT scanning equipment inside the ABSL-3 environment and maintain quality control testing and records for this equipment.
- Working in a ABSL-3 suite with some animal contact, and work with radioactive chemicals
- BS/BA degree in related field.
- Minimum of at least 2 years of work experience.
- Ability to learn principles of molecular biology, genetics, systems biology, and immunology.
