Description

About the NASA Postdoctoral Program

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.

Description:

Coupling processes between the magnetosphere and ionosphere are being investigated using auroral images from the POLAR and Dynamics Explorer spacecraft, and particles and fields data from these and other STP/LWS Program spacecraft. Of particular interest are (1) the electrodynamic relationships between the particle precipitation, electric-field convection cells, the field-aligned currents, and the global aurora; (2) the source and effects of inverted-V electron precipitation; (3) the association of charged particles and field-aligned currents with aeronomic and ionospheric phenomena; and (4) the relationship between outer magnetosphere phenomena and their signatures at ionospheric altitudes.
