Description

A Biological Science research opportunity is available with the Southern Plains Range Research Station (SPRRS) in Woodward, Oklahoma.  The selected applicant will assist in the maintenance and data collection of research field plots.  The research may include planting, cultivating, irrigating, harvesting, sampling, and the collection of data.  Once data is collected, the selected applicant will assist with the processing of forage samples for laboratory and data analyses.

The appointment is part-time, up to 32 hours per week, for one year and may be renewed upon the recommendation of the ARS and availability of funding.  The participant must show proof of health and medical insurance. Health insurance can be obtained through ORISE.  The participant does not become an employee of ARS or ORISE.

While participants will not enter into an employment relationship with ARS, this position requires a pre-employment check and a full background investigation.

Qualifications

Eligible applicants must be currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in biological or agricultural sciences or closely related fields.  Knowledge or experience in plant field culture and the processing of laboratory samples is desirable.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of methods, procedures, and techniques commonly used in agronomic research.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles of biological or agricultural sciences to perform routine and recurring analysis, sample collection and measurements.
  • Skills in keeping exact and detailed records of data obtained from experiments.  The selected applicant will have the ability to operate a personal computer using word processing and/or data-base management software.
  • Ability to schedule and independently carry out work assignments.
  • Knowledge of vehicle safety and keeping a safe work environment.
