A Water Resources Support Scientist position is available with the Delta Water Management Research Unit (DWMRU) in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The selected applicant will support existing research efforts in water resources data collection associated with agriculture. This includes but is not limited to: deploying, troubleshooting, programming, and maintaining field sensors; designing and pricing suites of sensors to address research questions; calculating power requirements for field systems; establishing, maintaining and troubleshooting communications and telemetry to/from field data collection sites; design, program and administer databases; web and user interface programming; establish field protocol for data collection and site maintenance; and analyze incoming field data.
The appointment is full-time for one year and may be renewed upon recommendation of the ARS and availability of funding. The participant must show proof of health and medical insurance. Health insurance can be obtained through ORISE. The participant does not become an employee of the ARS or ORISE.

To be eligible, applicants must have received a Master’s degree in engineering, environmental sciences, agriculture, hydrology or related field within five years of the desired starting date.
Complexity of the research requires the selected applicant to possess knowledge, skill and experience with field sensors used to measure environmental conditions. Experience with telemetry and communication systems, weather networks, soil moisture sensing equipment and eddy covariance sensors is expected. The selected applicant must have the ability to successfully interact with a variety of people and ensure field personnel are properly trained and accomplishing tasks in a timely and safe manner.
