A postdoctoral research opportunity is available with the Nutrition and Environmental Management Research Unit (NEMRU) in Clay Center, Nebraska. The selected applicant will develop a high impact research program to improve production efficiency of beef or swine using a metabolomics approach to determine physiological processes that contribute to variation in feed intake, and nutrient utilization amongst populations of animals. The incumbent will use systems that monitor individual feed intake. S/he will be responsible for collecting biological samples, chemical analyses of the samples using GC-MS, LC-MS(QToF), and/or LC-MS/MS(Triple Quadrupole) procedures, and subsequent data analyses.
The appointment is full-time for one year and may be renewed upon recommendation of the ARS and availability of funding. The annual stipend rate for this appointment is $57,983. A stipend supplement in the amount of $13,615 is also provided to offset the cost of an individual or family health insurance plan. The participant must show proof of health and medical insurance. Health insurance can be obtained through ORISE. The participant does not become an employee of the ARS or ORISE.

To be eligible, applicants must have received a doctorate degree and have experience in animal science with a background in metabolism and/or physiological chemistry. Preferred skills include a professional knowledge of nutrition, physiological chemistry, and experience using LC-MS/MS.
