Description

A fellowship opportunity is available to support the Division of Analysis, Research, and Practice Integration (DARPI) within the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in Atlanta, Georgia.

Under the direction of a mentor, the selected participant will be trained in the following activities related to injury and violence prevention:

  • The use of health care claims data, national survey data and results from the research literature to estimate the economic burden of injury and violence

  • The application of rigorous scientific processes to plan, analyze, synthesize, and translate research to demonstrate the effectiveness of injury and violence prevention in real world settings

  • How to describe the impact of alternative prevention options to maximize the impact of scarce prevention resources

  • Increase understanding of economic and demographic changes on rates of injury and violence

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.

Qualifications

 

  • Postgraduate degree (Masters, doctorate or "ABD" for doctoral degree) in economics, health services research, health policy or similar field

  • Excellent quantitative skills are desired.

  • Knowledge of advanced statistics and econometrics is preferred.

  • Experience analyzing health care claims data is desired.
