A fellowship opportunity is currently available in the Division of Unintentional Injury Prevention (DUIP) of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.
The NCIPC aim is to prevent violence and injuries and reduce their consequences so that people can live to their full potential. DUIP's mission is to ensure that people of all ages from infants to older adults have safe and healthy lives by reducing deaths from prescription painkiller overdoses, deaths and injuries from motor vehicle crashes, deaths and injuries from traumatic brain injury (TBI) and promotion intervention that can help reduce falls among older adults.
Joining DUIP, the selected participant will assist the Health Systems and Trauma Systems Branch on the Prevention Program Team in training activities that will align with the two state-level opioid overdose prevention initiatives: Prevention for States and Data-Driven Prevention Initiative. Training activities will be in these two areas. This is a unique training opportunity to learn about the inner workings of a national scale program.
The fellow will have the training opportunity to cull programmatic resources and internal documentation to proactively identify technical assistance needs among funded states. Activities may include:
The fellow will have the training to learn how centralized and current summary resources and fact sheets serve the day-to-day needs of program, science, evaluation, policy, and communications work associated with administering a national scale and very high profile program. CDC staff need fast access to up-to-date, comprehensive resources to inform program decisions, strategy, and communications with CDC leadership and external accountability partners. This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
MPH in public health, psychology, sociology, epidemiology, or related field received within five years of the start date of the appointment.
Highly qualified candidates would possess:
· Experience or knowledge regarding public health, program administration, prescription drug overdose and prevention or a related research area;
· Experience in providing training and technical assistance
· Experience or knowledge related to public policy research;
· Experience with the conduct of systematic reviews;
Experience with public administration/or public policy research is strongly preferred, but not required.
