An opportunity is currently available in the Assessment Branch, Immunization Services Division, within the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Assessment Branch provides scientific leadership on measurement of vaccination coverage across the lifespan. The selected participant will develop and implement activities to collect, analyze and disseminate accurate vaccination coverage data, and promote use of these data for evaluation of immunization programs and policies at the national, state and local levels. As a member of the Assessment Branch’s Support, Evaluation, and Surveillance Team, the fellow will help improve data collection, conduct statistical analyses, develop applied research projects, and provide technical assistance to CDC’s immunization program partners. Opportunities may include:
Monitor vaccination coverage among school-aged children within the School Vaccination Assessment Program
Track vaccination coverage among children and adults in U.S. Affiliated Pacific Island Jurisdictions within the Pacific Island Vaccination Assessment Program
Formulate and implement strategies for state and local health departments to implement immunizations practice standards
Plan and conduct data analyses on vaccination coverage to identify areas for programmatic improvement
Develop training materials on data collection, disseminate coverage data, and create local data use strategies to achieve immunization program goals
Compile and consolidate best practices at state and local health departments that promote and improve immunization, and identify successful interventions implemented within state and local immunization programs
Conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses to measure correlations between vaccination coverage and demographic characteristics
Develop evaluation tools to measure the impact of training and other interventional activities, and identify changes needed to increase their effectiveness
Present findings and recommendations at national forums and in peer-reviewed journals
This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
A Bachelor’s or Master’s (preferred) degree in public health, health education, or related science field received within the last five years.
Experience in health education is preferred.
