The mission of EPA's Office of Children's Health Protection is to ensure EPA actions and programs further the protection of children’s environmental health. This includes addressing the potential for unique exposures, hazards, health effects, and health risks to children during the development of agency actions, regulations and policies. These efforts address children’s health as they relate to safe chemicals management, clean air, safe drinking water and other factors. The participant will be involved in various projects related to considerations focused on the incorporation of children's environmental health in EPA research, assessments, methodologies and policies.
The primary focus of this opportunity is children’s environmental health risk assessment, which includes application of research in the fields of developmental biology, as well as exposure, hazard, and dose-response assessment. With guidance from a staff mentor and other team members, the participant may be involved in the following training activities:

The appointment is full time for one year and may be renewed upon recommendation of EPA and contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend based on level of education. Funding may be made available to reimburse the participant’s travel expenses to present the results of his/her research at scientific conferences and stakeholder venues. No funding will be made available to cover travel costs for pre-appointment visits, relocation costs, tuition and fees, or participant’s health insurance. The participant must show proof of health and medical insurance. The participant does not become an EPA employee.
The mentor for this project is Khesha Reed (reed.khesha@epa.gov). The desired start date for this appointment is September 18, 2017.
