Description

A fellowship opportunity is currently available at the Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response (OPHPR) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Division of State and Local Readiness (DLSR) is implementing a comprehensive training program to support state and local preparedness and response to disasters that require medical countermeasure interventions. The implementation of this program includes the transfer of three courses previously administered by the Division of Strategic National Stockpile (DSNS) (Mass Antibiotic Dispensing, Mass Antibiotic Dispensing Train-the-Trainer, and RealOpt.). DSLR will also be coordinating the delivery of the DSNS PREP course that includes material from both divisions. Additionally, new courses or learning support activities may be developed to augment existing courses or to cover new content areas.

The MCM Training Program is adapting to the virtual learning environment and will be transitioning and adjusting courses and support materials to expand accessibility to these courses nationwide, increase frequency of offerings, provide supportive activities, and learning components to reinforce training content. These offerings will be integrated with selective in-person courses and course offerings provided at the FEMA Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) in Anniston, Alabama.

Courses and learning opportunities in the MCM Training Program will be administered both through Train.org and CDP. Participants in the MCM program will be monitored for course completion, evaluated for any change in knowledge, skills, and abilities, and continuing education credits will be offered for select courses.

The fellow will have the opportunity to be involved iin the following activities:

  • Developing and implementing the MCM External Training Program - Developing, modifying, and enhancing course materials, creating standardized, competency-based curricula, assessing training needs, course planning and delivering content both virtually and through in-person formats.
  • Employing instructional design, adult learning principles, health education techniques and other relevant strategies and approaches to develop creative, innovative, and effective learning through a variety of media. Learning activities are not limited to instructor-led offerings, but may also include asynchronous learning, collaborative sessions, self-directed or self-study modules, etc. The fellow will receive guidance on content and material related to MCM dispensing and distribution strategies and principles.
  • Developing course materials, activity design, and evaluation instruments. The fellow will draw upon layout, formatting, and design skills to create attractive, accurate, and professional training materials in accordance with CDC guidelines.

In addition, the fellow will support stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts from a range of CDC units including, but not limited to the DSLR Program Services Branch, DSLR Applied Science and Evaluation Branch, DSLR Capacity Building Branch, the DSNS Learning Team, the DSLR MCM Clinician, Public Health Foundation, ASTHO, and NACCHO.

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.
