Description

The participant will conduct strategic analysis on programs, industry, and investments related to clean energy innovation and deployment, including:

• Identifying, incorporating, and integrating large, multidisciplinary datasets and analysis on federal, industry and investor activities across the clean energy sector

• Authoring short, practical/applied papers and presentations evaluating the effectiveness of innovation and deployment policies

• Performing focused case study analysis of innovation and clean energy deployment pathways

• Engaging stakeholders across academic, industry, investment, and non-profit communities

• Summarizing complex analytical results and policy conclusions and brief DOE senior leadership

Our office explores questions such as:

• How have public investments and policies accelerated US clean energy innovation (research, development, and demonstration) and deployment (e.g. renewables, storage, nuclear, etc)?

• What investments, programs, and policies could accelerate private sector activity across the Research, Development, Demonstration, and Deployment (RDD&D) chain (e.g. venture capital, private equity, project finance, and public capital markets)?

• What mechanisms effectively link the public and private sectors to accelerate the innovation process?

This position will be located in Washington, DC.
 

Participant Benefits

Selected candidates will receive a stipend as support for their living and other expenses during this appointment. Stipend rates are determined by DOE EPSA officials, and are based on the candidate’s academic and professional background. Candidates will also be eligible to receive a health insurance allowance and reimbursement for travel expenses. Appointments are for one year. Appointments may be extended in increments of up to one year, contingent upon project needs and funding availability. The maximum length of time a participant can spend in the ORISE program is five years from his/her initial start date.

Nature of the Appointment

Participants will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, the DOE, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.

Qualifications

Recent relevant degree holder (Masters or PhD conferred within 5 years) in economics, policy, business, finance, engineering, or a related field.

Successful applicants must have a strong quantitative background with demonstrated skills of multi-disciplinary data analysis, strong written and oral communication skills to translate complex issues for senior decision makers, and willingness to perform dynamic, team-based analysis. Desired experience with energy technologies, entrepreneurial settings, and RDD&D is a major plus.
