The National Library of Medicine Associate Fellowship is:
A one-year residency program (with an optional second year) for recent library science graduates interested in a career in health sciences librarianship. The program combines curriculum and project work and is located at the National Library of Medicine on the campus of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and NIH. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of NIH contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at NIH in the Bethesda, Maryland, area. Participants do not become employees of NIH or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.
The Associate Fellowship financial support includes:
• Annual stipend of $52,668
• Additional funding to support purchase of group health insurance
• Up to $1,500 in relocation support
• Funding to support attendance at local and national conferences

Master's degree in an ALA-accredited library/information science program, earned by August of the year of appointment or within the previous two years. (Undergraduate degree can be in any major.)
