Description

The Naval Medical Research Unit Dayton (NAMRU-D) supports the warfighter through premier aerospace medicine and environmental health research. NAMRU-D performs research on the effects of unique military settings and operational environments.

Under the guidance of a mentor, the selected participate will engage in the following learning opportunities:

  • Collecting and analyzing data that will contribute toward various assigned environmental compliance projects.
  • Participate in reviewing Safety Data Sheets and ensuring proper chemical storage requirements are being met and the correct signage is posted.
  • Participate in classifying hazardous waste for disposal and ensuring the requisite paperwork is posted.
  • Collaborate with multiple organizations within and outside of NAMRU-D.

Position is at a Part-Time bases.

Appointment Length

This appointment is a twelve month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.

Participant Benefits

Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by NAMRU-D. Stipends are typically based on the participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location.  Other benefits may include the following:

  • Training and Travel Allowance

Nature of Appointment

The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency.  Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.

Qualifications

The minimum education preference for this opportunity is an Associate of Science or Associate of Applied Science in  Environmental Studies, Environmental Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering Technology, or working towards a degree in Environmental Studies, Environmental Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering Technology.

The qualifications needed for this opportunity are the ability to problem solve, produce creative solutions, and communicative effectively. The participant should have a basic level knowledge of the various federal environmental compliance requirements that need to be met as well as the ability to research other requirements. The participant should basic computer skills with the ability to use Microsoft products as well as the desire to learn other software packages.

  • Degree: Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree received within the last 60 months or currently pursuing.
