Description

The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) located in Silver Spring, Maryland, is offering an Established Scientist opportunity for a Biostatistician.

What will I be doing and why I should apply?

WRAIR provides valuable training opportunities for improvement of quantitative skills that broaden horizons and deepen understanding of complex biostatistical model requirements, conditions for their execution, and their wider application. WRAIR offers a unique opportunity for biomedical research that is increasing medical readiness and lethality of Service Members.  Under the guidance of a mentor, you will have an opportunity to gain advanced skills and vast knowledge, which you will use for various data analyses, reports compilation, and results communication.

In the pursuit of acquiring new skills in statistical and reporting techniques applicable to assessing military medical standards and their impact on military readiness, this senior biostatistician will enhance their learning through instruction on and completion of:

  • Time-to-event models to compare attrition between military populations
  • Time-series and other models to predict service strength
  • Retrospective study methods to identify potential correlates of negative service outcomes (such as non-deployability)
  • Traditional and Bayesian approaches to both linear and non-linear regression to quantify connections between pre-service features and likelihood of in-service outcomes
  • Preparation of technically accurate technical reports with scientifically appropriate but readily understandable corresponding narratives

Where will I be located?

Silver Spring, Maryland

What is the anticipated start date?

The Walter Reed Army Institute of Research is ready to make appointments immediately. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and internships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.

What is the appointment length?
