A fellowship is available in the Office of Adolescent Health (OAH) in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH) at the Department for Health and Human Services (HHS) in Rockville, Maryland.
OAH operates two grant programs, one aimed at reducing teen pregnancy and another that supports expectant and parenting teens and their family members. The office also funds grant evaluations and provides training and technical assistance to grantees. OAH operates several communication channels to disseminate adolescent health information to healthcare providers, other youth-serving professionals, parents and other caregivers, and teens. OAH manages an award-winning website, disseminates adolescent health e-updates to 50,000+ subscribers, and shares information on social media including Twitter (16,500 Twitter followers on @TeenHealthGov). OAH produces print materials, videos, and webinars on adolescent health topics for youth-serving professionals, grantees, and the general public.
In 2014, OAH launched a national call to action to promote adolescent health called Adolescent Health: Think, Act, Grow®, or TAG. TAG was developed with 80 national youth-serving organizations to put adolescent health on the national agenda and spur action. OAH uses TAG as a framework to partner with national, regional, state, and local organizations to raise awareness about adolescent health. These partnerships include joint conference presentations, webinars, blog posts, and web content. TAG products, including the TAG Playbook and TAG in Action successful program strategies, are free to download from the OAH website.
OAH convenes the HHS-wide Adolescent Health Working Group to help share information and coordinate adolescent focused activities across HHS. OAH also actively participates in other HHS working groups as well as the federal Interagency Working Group on Youth Programs. OAH is called upon to develop special projects related to adolescent health and well-being for other HHS agencies; other federal, state, and local agencies; and national organizations.
This fellowship is located in the OAH Division of Strategic Communications.
