Description

A fellowship opportunity is currently available in the Program Performance and Evaluation Office (PPEO) within the Office of the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Under the leadership of CDC’s Chief Evaluation Officer, the selected participant will be matched with CDC host programs to carry out program evaluation activities for/with those programs. Host programs will be selected through a competitive process to ensure participants are being assigned to productive evaluation activities that will both build the knowledge base of the program and enhance the professional development of the participant.

Typically, a participant will be assigned to one program for the duration of their appointment, but s/he may also serve on a series of smaller evaluation projects outside their host program to increase their exposure to CDC. The participants will interact primarily with the staff of their host program, but will receive support as a group and individually from PPEO staff. S/he will have the opportunity to develop a customized training and professional development plan in consultation with their host program mentor and PPEO to ensure they fill skill gaps and gain visibility with CDC programs through the duration of their appointment. S/he will also have frequent opportunities to interact with colleagues in their fellowship cohort to promote the exchange of ideas and to further advance their knowledge and skills in evaluation.

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.

The fellow will receive a monthly stipend depending on education and experience. Stipends are based on the federal GS scale, and determined by the CDC Human Resources Office. Typically, fellows with a master’s degree will start at a GS-9, step 1 (currently $50,578); for those who have earned a PhD, starting stipends will be based on GS-11, step 1 (currently $61,193) and may be augmented up to a GS-12, step 4 (currently $80,683), depending on the amount and duration of relevant post-doctoral experience (minimum 2 years). In addition, the fellow will receive a supplement to support the training and professional development activities in their customized plan and CDC will provide a health insurance supplement during the fellowship to assist with the cost of health insurance. The appointment is full time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Moving expenses cannot be reimbursed.
