A fellowship opportunity is currently available in the Policy Research, Analysis, and Development Office (PRADO), within the Office of the Associate Director for Policy (OADP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.
PRADO’s mission is to conduct health policy work at CDC’s Atlanta locations, specifically in policy analysis, policy implementation, and policy strategies and agendas. PRADO’s goal also is to build relationships and coordinate work across CDC and within the healthcare system, other government agencies, think tanks, policy consultancies, academic institutions, and other organizations.
The participant will train in legal analysis and policy evidence assessment, review, and translation activities in support of the Health Impact in 5 Years Initiative (HI-5). He/she will support OADP policy evidence assessment efforts by conducting literature reviews and legal analyses on relevant public health topics and developing scientific and translation products. The participant will be part of a team that focuses on policy related evidence assessments on HI-5 community-wide interventions that can accelerate health improvement.
The ORISE participant may be involved in the following activities:
Conducting extensive literature searches and environmental scans, using PubMed, Westlaw and other databases.
Conducting evidence assessments on community-wide interventions supporting the HI-5 Initiative.
Conducting literature reviews and synthesizing evidence for journal articles and documents to support public health policy decision-making.
Providing legal analysis to support HI-5 Initiative.
Synthesizing and translating multiple forms of qualitative data (e.g. key informant interviews, convening/focus groups, and site visits).
Presenting findings at conferences and professional meetings.
Facilitating the publication of summary reports, white papers or research documents (including reviews), formatting manuscripts for journal submission as per journal requirements, tracking documents through the publication process, and communicating with journal editors to facilitate publication of the documents and ensure deadlines are met.
Supporting a multi-sector team with CDC subject matter experts and CDC Foundation HI-5 Partnership Consortium.
This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
JD or PhD in public health or health policy earned within the past five years. Master’s-level applicants with relevant experience also will be considered.
Experience in health policy analysis or similar field is preferred
Ability to perform literature searches, legal analyses and engage in scientific writing is preferred
Interest and knowledge in synthesizing and translating scientific evidence for policy decision-makers is preferred
