A fellowship is available in the Research Data Center (RDC), Division of Research Methodology, National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), Office of Public Health Scientific Services (OPHSS) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Research Data Center was developed by the National Center for Health Statistics to allow researchers to access restricted NCHS data. Today, in addition to providing access to NCHS data, the RDC also hosts restricted data from a variety of groups within the Department of Health and Human Services. The RDC is responsible for protecting the confidentiality of survey respondents, study subjects, and institutions from which the data were collected.
The ORISE participant(s) will work closely with RDC staff and will liaison with researchers who access restricted data in the RDC. The participant(s) will assist researchers with proposal development and review and conduct research on public health topics.
This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.
- Enrolled in Master’s degree or doctoral degree program in public health or other science, or earned the degree within the past five years.
- Interest in research synthesis and dissemination desired.
- Training or experience in one or more of these disciplines is desired: health systems research, program evaluation, laboratory medicine, or epidemiology.
- Statistical analysis and data management experience; familiarity with statistical software packages such as SAS, SUDAAN, and STATA; and strong scientific writing skills desired
