Two research opportunities are currently available within the Emergency Management, Radiation, and Chemical Branch (EMRCB), in the Division of Environmental Health Science and Practice (DEHSP) of the National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Emergency Management Section of DEHSP is CDC's focal point for science-based emergency management related to the environmental public health consequences of natural and technological disasters. This research opportunity will provide educational experience related to professional, programmatic, and scientific support to the Emergency Management Team (EMT) and the Associate Director for Emergency Management.
The participant will obtain programmatic and scientific training from the Emergency Management Team (EMT) and the Associate Director for Emergency Management. The training will include emergency management protocols and tools, researching peer reviewed publications, emergency response activation and disaster exercises, and coordination and evaluation of program development strategies. In addition, the participant will receive training related to coordinating and collaborating with multiple stakeholders on emergency management projects and activities.

The research opportunity may provide additional training opportunities in support of other activities related to the mission of EMS, with approval and guidance from the mentor.
Anticipated Appointment Start Date: October 14, 2019 or later
This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment can be up to one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.
The qualified candidate should have received a master's degree in public health, preferably with a focus on environmental health and/or disaster management, or be currently pursuing the degree and will reach completion by December 31, 2019. Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date.
