Description

A research opportunity is available with the Emergency Response and Recovery Branch (ERRB), Division of Global Health Protection (DGHP), Center for Global Health (CGH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) located in Atlanta, Georgia.

Throughout the course of this research project, the participant will develop and enhance their epidemiologic and statistical analysis skills while supporting operational research, outcome evaluations of interventions and programs, and analysis of large datasets in the field of nutrition in emergencies with a focus on the interaction between COVID-19 and nutrition.  The participant will assist with the development of research agendas, writing protocols, data analyses, and publication of results. The participant may have the opportunity to travel internationally and work in countries affected by humanitarian crises. The participant will conduct under the general direction of CDC’s Emergency Response and Recovery nutrition unit on the humanitarian health team.

Anticipated Appointment Start Date: October 2020

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment can be up to one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.

Qualifications

The qualified candidate must have received a master’s degree in one of the relevant fields. Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date.

Preferred skills:

  • Prior experience with coordination of epidemiologic studies
  • Knowledge of and experience with statistical packages (SPSS, SAS, Stata, and/or R).
  • Interest in the field of nutrition in emergencies
  • Experience in working internationally
  • Able and willing to travel internationally and work in countries affected by humanitarian emergencies
  • Fluency in English, proficiency in French
