A research opportunity is currently available within the Office of the Associate Director for Policy (OADP) of the Center for Global Health (CGH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) located in Atlanta, Georgia.

This research opportunity with CDC’s global health policy team, under the CGH Associate Director for Policy, focuses on strategy and partnerships. Under the guidance of a mentor, the research participant will be involved with projects aiming to strengthen policy capacity for CDC’s global staff in over 60 countries across the world and develop partnership opportunities to advance strategic priorities for the CDC’s Center for Global Health. The participant will have the opportunity to develop a strong understanding of USG global health programs and stakeholders, improve policy writing and communications skills, participate in CDC global health diplomacy, and interact with key CDC partners in the global health policy community.

Specific learning opportunities for the participant will include:

  • How to support strategic engagement with key interagency partners
  • How to participate in preparation for key multilateral engagements such as the WHO Executive Board meeting, World Health Assembly, and other events
  • How the global health policy team prepares in hosting high-level visits to CDC, including by foreign Ministries of Health, US ambassadors, and other stakeholders
  • How to prepare briefing materials and talking points for CDC leadership across a range of global policy issues, in close coordination with subject matter experts
  • How to respond to information and issues management requests on behalf of CGH

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The initial appointment can be up to one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.

Qualifications

The qualified candidate should have received a master's degree in one of the relevant fields. Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date.
