Description

The U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology is offering postdoctoral internships at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

What will I be doing?

This research opportunity is offered through the NEAT center at the Air Force's premier graduate school, AFIT.  NEAT is focused on technical workforce development for meeting USAF challenges that includes research, education, and outreach. Under the guidance of a mentor, you will join a community of scientists and researchers in research to counter weapons of mass destruction will interact with faculty, researchers, and students in a unique technical Countering Weapon of Mass Destruction (CWMD) distance learning program. Your experience will include analyzing course and program requirements as well as conducting research and studies to further develop ideas that improve course quality and relevant content.  In addition, you will have opportunities to join existing research projects to further develop knowledge and professional skills related to CWMD technologies and methods. You will have the opportunity to provide lectures and collaborate with current faculty in building long-term projects and exercises to test and increase student skills. Areas of application are broad, covering chemical, biological or nuclear weapons of mass destruction development, detection, and survivability. You will support the development of program material content designed to enhance the value and effectiveness of AFIT graduate education.

  • Research a topic in CWMD and develop a course problem or group project
  • Examine broad CWMD technical battle space with logical connections to each technical area with risk analysis
  • Assess human factors based upon a CWMD scenario and present the results to a graduate level audience
  • Function in a multidisciplinary research/education team

What is the anticipated start date?

The Air Force Institute of Technology is ready to make appointments immediately. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and internships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.

Appointment Length

This appointment is a twelve month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.

What are the benefits?

You will receive a stipend to be determined by <<Sponsor>>. Stipends are typically based on a participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location.  Other benefits may include the following:

Nature of Appointment

You will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD, or any other office or agency.  Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.

Qualifications

Candidates should have earned a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline within the last 5 years.
