How to Apply

A complete application consists of:

  • All required fields in both the profile and application form, including essays on research and career goals
  • Selection of up to five projects from the DHS HS-STEM project catalog at http://public.orau.org/SAWD/DHS-Ed/
  • Transcripts for all postsecondary institutions attended during the last two years and proof of enrollment during the Fall 2015
  • Minimum of two references received by the deadline for references to complete online recommendations (see Key Dates)

Description

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate Office of University Programs sponsors a 10-week summer internship program for undergraduate and graduate students majoring in homeland security related science, technology, engineering and mathematics (HS-STEM) disciplines. The program provides students with quality research experiences at federal research facilities located across the country and allows students the opportunity to establish connections with DHS professionals. It is open to students in a broad spectrum of HS-STEM Disciplines and DHS mission-relevant Research Areas.

Undergraduate students receive a $6,000 stipend plus travel expenses.

Graduate students receive a $7,000 stipend plus travel expenses.

Qualifications
  • United States (U.S.) citizenship as of the application deadline
  • At least 18 years of age by May 1, 2016
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher on a 4.00 scale as of Spring/Summer 2015
  • Pursuing long-term career goals aligned with the DHS mission and objectives
  • Full-time enrollment as a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student

Eligibility Requirements
  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizen Only
  • Degree: Currently pursuing an Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, or Doctoral Degree.
